Hey Arcaders,

Forums are a great way to learn more about your arcade website, Get visitors, Advertise and get knoweledge into new tatics to get more users to your arcade website. I’ve compiled a list of arcade forums with information about them that you can join or look at. I hope that you learn something from these websites and mabye get some new ideas as well as some great knoweledge on how to run your own arcade website.

ArcadeBB – Arcade Webmaster Forum
http://www.arcadebb.com
ArcadeBB website
ArcadeBB is a fairly new arcade forum for webmasters. It is getting posts everyday and even has a adsense sharing revenue which lets you put your publisher ID from adsense into your profile and displays your ad sometimes on the website. Currently there are only three main categories that relate to ArcadeBB, Arcades in general and Off Topic, There will be more categories added once the community grows.

Talk Arcades
http://www.talkarcades.com

Talk Arcades is by far the largest and most used arcade webmasters forum. It provides a new feature which is a GameFeed™ Distribution Network which is simple to install and provides games to your website. There is MOD’s enabled on it that lets you buy and sell things and threads usally get replies to them within  a few hours, No matter what the post is about.

GSS Mods
http://www.gssmods.com
– Game Site Script Support

The value of GSS Mods is it is really the only site to offer the vast array of free fixes, mods, custom themes, as well as an exclusive Deal with Designmods.com for custom jobs at a significantly reduced price. At GSS Mods you can get it all. For those not aware, Frank the owner of GSS was going to use these forum’s fixes to make the GSS 4.5 bug fix version.

GSS mods enables you to implement the fixes, mods, and tweaks as a “hotfix” without resulting in an overwrite of your script- and in the end will give you the equivalent of the new version of GSS, or even a script that surpasses it as 4.5 is solely a “bug fix” -no changes or mods, no new features will be incorporated into it. Alot of what you can get here in the forums, will most likely not be in the version 4.5. If you want a truly outstanding GSS arcade script, One that has tons of mods, tweaks, and fixes to truly make it stand out and excel, then you have come to the right place!

More forums that will be  added soon:

http://forum.avscripts.net – AV Arcade Support
http://www.arcadesters.com – Arcade Webmaster Forum
http://www.arcades-forums.com – Arcade Webmaster Forum
http://www.freearcadescript.net/forums/index.php – Free Arcade Script Support

Got a forum you want to see on this list? Simply leave a comment and i will add it within 24 hours, That’s a promise.

Thanks,
Foxy

Hey Arcaders,

Today i am going to be giving a step by step installation guide for AV Arcade Pro. I have been seeing a lot of people who want a guide or video on how to install AV Arcade Pro so i thought i would make a guide. Simply follow the text and picture below and you can have your AV Arcade Pro installed in no time.
— —

1) Downloading and getting the Activation Key

a)First off we want to go onto the main AV Arcade website which is located at http://www.avscripts.net/arcade/ and click on the customer area.

AV Arcade Homepage
b) Next screen that pops up we have to enter our username and password into to log into the customer area of AV Arcade. If you have forgotten your username there is option there to get it sent to you again. If it skips this page and says you are already logged in just skip this step and move to the next one.

c) Once logged in we see can see some new options that we couldn’t see before, We cant to click on Packages. Packages shows all the items you have brought from AV Arcade. If you haven’t purchased it yet you might want to go back and purchase it. If you have purchased it and nothing is inside your packages then send an e-mail to support@avscripts.net and let Andy know that you haven’t received your script.

d) As you should now see there are links to where you can download and see your AV Arcade activation keys. Download your script, Right now you wont need your activation key but you will once your script is installed.

2) Uploading and setting up the Database

a) Now unless you have a free host you should need to upload your files your server. If you have do not know how to do this then i suggest not opening an arcade at this time since you do no have much knowledge. If you insist on opening an arcade website feel free to comment here and i will install it for a small fee. Place all the files on your web server inside the /public_html/ file, once everything  is uploaded onto it, It should look something like this.

b) Now comes the database, This is the most hardest bit to explain since every website can be different. I’m going to be showing you what to do through CPanel. First login to your CPanel which should be located at http://www.(your domain name).com/cpanel. Then login, If you don’t know your login you need to contact the person who manages your web server. Otherwise try your FTP login as most of the time that is what is used.

c) Once inside your cpanel find your databases section and select “MySQL® Database Wizard”. Next type the name of your database in. I suggest  using “arcade” without the quotation marks but it can really be anything. Next select a username and password to use for that database. Don’t worry you will only need to remember this once. After that the last thing will be to select what privileges you want your user to have. Select all of them. Congradulations you just created a database with nothing in it.

d) Last but not least you need to make your script talk to your database. We need to open config.php file on the web server FTP and edit it. So open up your FTP where all your files are on the server and open config.php. When its open we need to edit from lines 3 to 6, I have placed in brackets what needs to be edited with your own information. After that is done close the file and make sure it uploads to the server again.

3) Installation of AV Arcade Pro

a) Alright now if everything above is done correctly this should be very simple. If there appears to be an error with anything to do with the database make sure your config file has the right code in it. Go to your website “http://www.(your domain name).com/install/” and click install.

b) The next page lets you change the title of your website and create and admin account. Make sure you remember your username and password otherwise you need to edit it a new account to become admin in the database.

c) It should now come up with a page saying to delete your install file. To do this open up your FTP, login to your server and then simple delete the file that says install. Congratulations, Go to your website and it should now look nice with an arcade script installed.

4) Activating AV Arcade

a) Remember how in step one “Downloading and getting the Activation Key” i showed you where to find your activation key? Well now you need to use it. Login to your arcade and click “administration” in the user area up the top, It will ask for your activation key. Simply place your activation key provided and you’re done.

— —

Well Done Arcaders, AV Arcade Pro is now installed and ready to be edited and have games added. If you have come across any errors or want me to install the script for you for a small fee leave a comment including your e-mail and i will get back to you. Also have an arcade script you want an installation guide for? Let me know.

Thanks,
Foxy

Hey Arcaders,
This is a review of  Free Arcade Script by Kurt the lead coder of Free Arcade Script. Remember to check my comments at the bottom of the screen. Just under the second pair of “— —”.

— —
Free Arcade Script Logo
Free Arcade Script, or FAS for short, has come a long what in its relatively short lifespan. Having been one of the people who has helped work on some of the script i can give you all a good review on what it is capable of.

FAS began life as a project by someone called Danny who was the original coder. He sold the script to Robbie who brought on board me as the lead coder. A few other people like Adam have helped out and who have contributed to how FAS is now. Moving along, I had a great concept of where the script needed to go to be among secure, user friendly, enjoyable, admin friendly, easy to maintain,  easy to modify and create templates, easy to make money with and last but not least SEO.

Following on with what i had planned, A few features were added in a short amount of time but was cut short when it was decided that the script needed to be changed to enable all the features in the plan.  Once we changed the script we started adding more features once again and we developed some scripts to add that were just found in premium scripts.

Some of the feature that FAS has:

  • SQL Caching. This is a feature that not even all premium scripts have. It helps cut down on the number of system resources that is needed to run the script. This allows the arcade to be ran from a shared hosting account for a longer period of time before having to move to a more expensive hosting.
  • Integrated Blog. Some more experienced arcade owners know how much traffic an arcade blog can bring in from simple thing like SEO. This feature can be turned off in the administration panel. There is also a feature which enables you to add members to members without needing to make them an admin. Letting others control your site for you.
  • Game adding privileges can be given to members without needing to make them admin. Again this lets others control your website you out you needed.
  • Extensive profiles for users. This script is almost a social networking script the way it is set out. Users can send private messages back and fourth. More is being added as we update the script.
  • Built in newsletter. No script that we know of comes with a newsletter script built into it.
  • Custom pages. The admin can set in custom pages from the admin panel which can user Javascript and HTML inside them.
  • Each page can have it’s own meta tags and meta description defined for SEO purposes, including for each different game.
  • Advertising can be set up different for each specific game. Great for game sponsorship revenue.
  • Game auto sizing for games uploaded through the admin panel.
  • Support for the script is incredible! You would never guess that it is a free script by the way problems have been handled in the past. Most issues have been addressed in hours if an admin is in the board, not days. There have been a few that have taken longer, but they got worked on till they were dealt with in one fashion or other.

There are of course other features that are more common among arcade scripts: link trading system, ad management, RSS feeds for games, search, member management, game management, template management, etc.

Some of the feature that FAS is missing:

  • Tokens were left out, at least for now, on purpose. It was felt that telling a visitor they can only play 50 games before they have to register would only irritate them, and chances are they would leave, perhaps never to return.
  • Some arcade owners like to have an ad page appear before the game page. This was also left out on purpose for the time being. Same reason applied, it might irritate some visitors. This is something that the owner is considering putting in though in such a way that it needs to be purposely activated in order to work.
  • Banning users has not been a problem that has come to light in the support forums, so it was held off for a bit while other features were given priority. This is already been coded into what is shaping up to be in the new version v2.1.

What features are coming in the future?

Well, I can tell you that banning a user is already coded in to v2.1. The basic structure for a forum, much requested by members in the support forum, has already been laid out. The ability to give members a choice in templates is in the works. Video, music, funny pics, and jokes, are planned for. I have heard rumor that a high score mod is almost done, just waiting on the contractor to finish and send it. More profile additions such as adding friends is already being coded in. Different languages, rotating ads, game plugs, shop, XML site map, and more, are all things in the works.

Yes, it may still have a few things some people would like to see changed but no script is perfect, and for a free script, it really is hard to beat.

Thanks,
Kurt

Well guys what do you think of his review? It explains a lot of the life story of the scripts and has great details of what is in the script and what is coming in the future. For a free script i must say that i have to rate this 10 / 10 it has gone further than what most free scripts do and and still going. The only thing that i can see what is missing is a integration to a game distributor such as Mochimedia, Flash Games Distribution or Game Feed.

With that said guys feel free to send in reviews for your arcade or an arcade you like. I will be reviewing this script in the future and you can compare the difference from a developer to a user.

Thanks,
FoxyGamers
